As promised; here’s a part two of playlists you need to have.
The “shower concert” playlist
Your ultimate karaoke playlist. The mic is the shampoo bottle and you’re belting your heart out. These are the songs you know by heart. This playlist will especially come in handy because it’s unlikely that you’ll be hitting “next” while in the shower; so choose your songs carefully. A good mix of moody and uplifting ballads should do.
The “chillin’ at home” playlist
You’ll use this one more often than you might think. For casual hangouts with friends and family; these songs will be playing as your background music to set the mood. The “chillin’ at home” playlist can be used for various different activities while at home; doing the dishes, attempting to work or simply embracing your inner couch potato.
The “let me be sad” playlist
This compilation of songs should come to you immediately. The ones that, upon hearing the first five seconds, never fail to bring you back to a certain place and time; maybe even bring a tear to your eye. This should be a close-second to booking, and actually going to, a therapy session. Mean to validate your emotions; this playlist will make you feel heard. Here’s one that makes me feel:
The “road trip” playlist
This playlist’s going to take some time to construct. The criteria is: 4-5 hours (at the least) of songs, ones you can’t resist singing and with upbeat tempos. This will ensure you have enough music to listen to on your next long road trip, there will be lots of singing and there’s no chance you’ll get tired. I recommend some karaoke jams, throwbacks, feel-good music and the oldies.
The “best of the best” playlist
This one in particular is pretty tricky to curate. It’s also going to take a solid amount of time to perfect. You can only add to this playlist when you know it’s a forever song. The ones that will never fade from your listening history. You’re allowed to start a basis of the songs you already know you’ll love forever, but you have to be picky. Below is one of my most cherished songs to give you some inspiration.
With part one and two of “5 essential playlists”, you should be able to get a good start on curating your Spotify library for every mood. I hope you enjoy the process as much as I do.
